CHARACTER
NAME: Inuyasha
CANON: Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale
CANON POINT: Chapter 238, Poisonous Smoke - After they retreat from battle with Jakotsu following the appearance of the poisonous smoke.
AGE: Appearance/mentality is 15, in real time approx 150 50 years frozen in time to a tree, so 200 or so. An antique.
BACKGROUND: History from the wiki. If you require more detail let me know!

PERSONALITY: As a hanyou (half-human/half-youkai), Inuyasha has been molded by a life spent as a pariah. Though he had a brief time with a loving mother as a child, her passing left him to fend for himself in the wilderness. Neither humans nor youkai would give him shelter. Both saw him as a blight to be eliminated.

As such his instinct is always to repel others. He gives a deplorable first impression: brash, impetuous, poorly mannered, foul mouthed, antagonistic, and at times feral. Some of these characteristics can't be helped. He'll behave like an animal on occasion, scratching an ear with his foot or sitting hunched on all fours, shaking off water to dry out, eating with bestial haste. That's part of his demonic dog nature, but also a product of living in the wilds alone for so long.

Others are merely a guard, and a poor one at that. He'll claim to not care what happens to the people around him, but then go out of his way to accommodate their wants — albeit with a lot of grousing and not always in the manner they'd expect. Early on he would boast of not caring about human matters, focusing only on collecting the jewel shards that would grant him the power to become a full youkai. Then he'd go lay his life on the line for the very same mortals while griping about what an annoyance it is.

It's all compensation. He fears vulnerability. Trust could get him killed, and having so few friends in his life leaves him fearful of what losing them might do. He'd rather repel people before they get too close to hurt him. He's got a soft heart, easily bruised, and he tends to believe the worst. He'll take teasing as insults, and readily assumes that people would leave him rather than stay by his side. He's also very prideful. His insecurities make him loathe to admit that he might be wrong, or back down from a challenge when its presented. Even so, in his heart of hearts he desperately wants to belong, to be loved, to be accepted. His new found friends are helping to affirm that belief but thawing him out has been slow going.

When he is more free with people he can be quite tender, which is especially apparent with Kagome and his old love Kikyou. He spends a lot of time chasing Kagome's heels, scrambling to make things better for her (trying to "fix" her bike or making nasty ass medieval medicine for her cold), and eventually will embrace or cuddle with her when he senses she needs it. Admitting his feelings is still a long way off, but his devotion reads loud and clear. With his other friends he'll play party to their requests, even if he finds them ridiculous. He also plays something of a big brother role to Shippou and Kagome's younger brother Sota, giving advice when asked and watching their backs.

On the downside, Inuyasha is deplorably obtuse. He misses many social cues and has a very crude understanding of the human heart. He blunders often and misreads the room, which leads to a lot of banal arguments. Some of this stems from his life of solitude, yet other evidence paints it plain that Inuyasha is just not that smart. He's easily goaded, consistently stumbles into traps, is flummoxed by the modern era (the fish out of water aspect can excuse some things, but that he couldn't recognize why blowing out the side of the Higurashi house to kill a cockroach is beyond the pale), and employs no brain to mouth filter. He's honest to a fault in nearly all situations, and nine times out of ten he winds up paying a price for it.

Yet he can employ cunning in the heat of battle. Quite often he'll think outside the box when faced with some new trick or dealing with a block on his own powers. When his sword has been taken from him he's been able to defend himself with the sheath alone. He's taken strategic hits to win the fight and directed his allies to aid in winning strategies. His instincts serve him better in combat than anywhere else. He's ensured victories against enemies far stronger than he is through his improvisational strategy.

Not to mention he is a tenacious son of a gun. If he sets out with a purpose he does not give up on his goal. The endless and seemingly failing pursuit of the jewel shards is a prime example, but more poignant is his determination in battle. He will fight through life threatening injuries to his last breath, no matter what kind of disadvantage he is faced with. Even in his powerless human form he employs the same reckless determination. When his friends are in danger this effect is doubled. He becomes blind to his own pain and turns relentless, not slowing until the threat is eliminated or he's down to his last breath.

Lastly, Inuyasha cannot abide the strong preying on the weak or treating people as outcasts. Understandable, considering his own miserable upbringing. Whatever complaints about wasting time he might have all fall to the wayside the moment he catches someone in danger. He will also go to great lengths to avoid killing a human, only doing so if they are villainous and there is no other choice. Youkai tend to get less of his sympathy as most are bloodthirsty and cruel. Those like Kouga or Sesshoumaru that possess better rationale he will offer more leniency to, and over time he may become (begrudging) allies with them. In spite of himself and his initial desire to gain demonic power, Inuyasha has become a hero of humanity instead. And he's happier for it.

POWERS/ABILITIES: ugh, why did I pick an anime.

Enhanced strength - being a half demon makes him vastly stronger than a human being, and being the son of one of the most powerful demons of all time gives him more strength than the average youkai. He's able to uproot large trees, throw boulders, and punch through steel. He can hit with enough strength to propel his fist through the body of a foe, which is part of how he fought Yura of the Hair, and he can rip limbs off their bodies or even split a body in two, as he does with the spider-head leader.

Enhanced Speed - He can run at incredible speeds, outpacing Kagome's bike and horses alike. He's able to dodge arrows and other such projectiles in combat.

Enhanced Reflexes - In conjunction with his speed, he's able to react with superhuman finesse. He's caught arrows moments before they hit him and was able to catch a fruit from behind his back when Kagome tossed it his way.

Enhanced Hearing - His dog ears are not just for decoration. He was able to hear Shippou trash talking him under his breath from quite a distance away, far enough away that he had to scream his threats back to make them heard.

Enhanced Smell - Again, like a dog, he has a keen sense of smell. He's able to follow scents through the thickly populated smog of modern Tokyo, tracking Kagome to her school from her home with no direction. It's sensitive to the point where strong smells can make him ill or knock him out. Ink is particularly potent to him, causing him to faint after a few sniffs.

Enhanced Endurance - He is able to take on great physical strain for long periods of time, fighting through grievous wounds and exhaustion at a point that would have felled other humans or youkai. He's finished battles with holes in his gut more than once.

Accelerated Healing - Said gut holes have healed within a matter of days, as long as he takes a rest. Which doesn't always happen, considering his boisterousness. Most injuries he sustains are negated wholly upon healing, but while he can regenerate an eye (Sesshomaru once gouged it out) he cannot regenerate limbs or other lost appendages.

Longevity - His youkai father's blood grants him the gift of exceptionally long life. As he appears to be fifteen years old at his true age of one hundred and fifty years, he probably ages a year every decade. However being half-human his lifespan will likely not measure up to a full youkai.

Claws - His claws are very sharp. Water is wet. But he can also use them in a demonic attack called Sankon Tesso that enhances their capabilities, allowing them to cut through steel.

Hijin Kesso - Or "Blades of Blood" in the English dub, is an attack in which he can dip his claws into his own blood and solidify it, throwing it at his enemies like a blade. It is not his strongest attack, but it cuts as well as his regular claws and is a nasty surprise, turning a weakness into a strength.

Tessaiga - This goddamn sword, okay. It's made from the fang of Inuyasha's father and is tailored specially to suit him. Ordinarily it looks like a battered, rusty katana. When activated by Inuyasha it transforms into a massive curved blade with a furred hilt, and possesses incredible powers.

------ Youkai expulsion - it cannot be wielded by a full-youkai who is cold-hearted, it will burn and expel their touch. It can be touched by kind-natured youkai, such as Shippou, or humans, whom it was designed to protect. Only hanyou will be able to hold and activate its full power, and even then they have to intend to protect humanity.

------ Scabbard - the sheath is able to also repel or deflect some youki (demonic energy) attacks. It can be used to summon the Tessaiga from a short distance if Inuyasha has it in his grip.

------ Kenatsu - The sword can release a small burst of youki to cut an enemy without touching it.

------ Kaze no Kizu - This attack is an ability that can theoretically fell one hundred lesser youkai in one blow. It's activated by detecting the point where the sword wielder's youki clashes with its opponents. There will be a fissure at the meeting, and if it is struck by the sword the result is a powerful blast that can raze the earth and obliterate the enemy. It is not strong enough to outright to slay the strongest youkai, it can cause them severe damage under the full strength of the blow. Eventually Inuyasha learned how to project his own youki to make the scar appear around the blade of the sword, which means that he can trigger it at will.

------ Bakuryūha - or "Backlash Wave". It can be activated when Inuyasha's opponent unleashes an attack purely made of youki — not a physical blow — he can combine it with the force of the Kaze no Kizu and reflect it back at them. It only works if Inuyasha's youki is at a similar level as his opponents.

------ Power Assimilation - When the sword kills a youkai or destroys a demonic item, it can take on their signature ability or attack. At this canon point the only power he's gained is the "Red Tessaiga", which breaks demonic barriers.

------ Indestructibility - After being fixed and supplemented by Inuyasha's own fang, the sword is unable to be destroyed as long as Inuyasha is alive. It will regenerate its own damage.

INVENTORY: Just his Tessaiga and its sheath.
