I’m asking because the Sanguis moon has apparently decided I need an enhanced sense of smell as well.

Well yeah. Human cities are full of garbage. Don't hang around dirty places in there. And food fairs smell good but they'll overpower you quickly. So will ink. So avoid them.

At least it can be useful. If you got stuck with a tail or scales or something that looked dumb and did nothing it would be worse. Consider yourself lucky.
