He wasn't expecting a call. She seemed pretty pissed last time, and he's still sore over it. He'd gone talking on the network under the illusion that it would be like a normal conversation, closed between two people. Turns out it was a free for all. He'd lost his head in front of everyone and Sesshomaru humiliated him. Again.
He debates ignoring it. But call him curious.]
...Yeah?
[He's sprawled on his belly someplace high, hewn from carved stone. City noises blare around him and there's green copper shingles on a turret behind him. It looks a bit like a library, or a parliament building. His chin rests on his one arm and his hair whips with frequent winds.]

You're pretty high up.
[It's an observation that comes a little surprised. A moment passes, and then:]
... I think we may have gotten off on the wrong foot. Do you mind talking now?
no subject
[Obviously.
He frowns at the camera. It wasn't the wrong foot, he hadn't done anything wrong, but whatever. If he acts like he's bothered by it that'll only look worse.]
I'm not doing anything else, if that's what you're asking. What is it?
no subject
[It's a gentle observation.]
And well... I wanted to let you know that I've started to plant food. Fruit, mostly. If you're interested.
Do you like peaches?
no subject
[And how. As if she hasn't gotten a sense for how poorly socialized both brothers were already.
Which means he's too guileless to hide how his ears prick forward when she mentions peaches. Were those the ones he put in? Normally he'd doubt it, it hadn't been nearly long enough for them to sprout into proper trees, but this place worked differently than home. The saplings they planted for wishes had sprouted overnight. Within weeks they could dwarf most anybody.]
'Course I do. [Is that too obvious?] I mean, they're all right. Food's food. You've got that stuff growing already?
no subject
[She tries not to smile when she sees his ears perk up. The ears... cute.] You wouldn't believe it, but I do! Peaches are hard to grow — they're delicate, and the process to get their seeds ready takes some work. But with the Chroma here... I'm starting to see saplings. Won't be long before they're bearing fruit. It looks as if someone donated a few seeds to me. I had to prep them of course, but...
Some of the berry bushes are already growing fruit too. You didn't seem too fond of gardening, the last we talked. But I thought you might be interested, all the same.

[Admittedly, a nice feature. But contrast that with kids getting beaten for sneaking extra shares during famines and it looks like the height of luxury.]
So it's all growing okay? [That's rhetorical, she just said as much, but he's still got a right to be glad for it. What a waste of time it would be if those peach pits had died, after all the trouble he went through of planting them in secret.
So he's got to scoff. Play it off like it's no big deal.] I never said I wasn't fond of it. I just don't do it.
[He frowns.] You know, I'm surprised you do it too, if you're from a modern place like this. I thought most humans forgot what it was like to work for your food.
